An important part of the ethos of the Pondhead Conservation Trust is education. The New Forest Centre is an informal partner of the Pondhead Conservation Trust providing education opportunities for booked visits to our woodland by school groups.
The New Forest Centre’s educationalists make use of the opportunities that Pondhead Inclosure has to offer in connection with the new national curriculum objectives – for example tree recognition and habitat work. Sessions can also be based on seasonal changes as well as the effects of human impact and management of the area.
We also welcome enquiries from youth and adult groups/organisations who wish to learn more about sustainable woodland management, charcoal production and the New Forest in general. We are happy to arrange guided walks or event days, both of which are informative in terms of the history of the New Forest and its biodiversity.
By way of example, we have undertaken conservation work with young offenders and young adults with learning difficulties. We have also provided a woodland meeting area for art therapists and undertaken a series of informative woodland walks for diverse groups, including the Disabled Ramblers Association. We are also happy to present informative talks to local groups and organisations.
For more information on these visits and talks/presentations please contact Derek Tippetts.
